About us

We are AND WHAT IF, a team of professionals capable of intercepting the needs of the
market and proposing fresh, up-to-date, fascinating stories for both documentaries and fiction creations, both series and one-offs.

 

We write stories based in Italy and around the world, but always starting from our own culture and point of view.
Telling great stories well. This is what we aim to do.
And What If has just celebrated its 20th anniversary as a company, with a new name and
structure. Giotto Barbieri, who founded the company in 2003, has now been joined by Martina
Venanzi
, who has worked as an executive producer for over a decade, building strong relationships with key players in the industry.
And What If previously produced
Ring! A Boxing Story‘, which was sold to TV channels worldwide,
0.9 Amps‘, a documentary about electroshock (Silver Hugo – Hugo Television Awards 2010 Chicago USA and Jury Prize Casablanca International Film Festival 2010)
and has developed several projects and scripts including
UNO, (winner of the Solinas Award 2005)
Trip, a serial fiction project and
The Shirt, an international filmproject in 2018.

And What If is a company with a strong production vocation for international documentary and fiction.
Giotto Barbieri has combined the role of producer with that of scriptwriter and director, both for audiovisual and theatre projects. He recently directed the episode Budapest Heist of the series Art Crimes, co-produced by Sky Italia and Zdf Arte in
Germany and broadcast in over 18 countries.
In the last 10 years Martina Venanzi has gained important experience as an executive producer of documentaries and series: Camorriste, 10 episodes for Crime and Investigation Channel, Art Crimes, 6 episodes (Sky Arte, Arte Germany),
Genova Anatomia di un disastro (National Geographic),
Crime Crossing the Line -10 episodes for A+E USA.

And What If is also collaborating with Kinè on the development of La Cura, a feature film at an advanced stage of development, directed and co-written by Giotto Barbieri.
